It's with a heavy heart that I must inform you that this site, Guild Wars Guru, will be shutting down on July 1st and will remain in Archive Mode. Over the past 11 years, we've become, and continued to remain, the #1 fansite for Guild Wars, and it's all because to you guys. Without such a strong and passionate community, Guru would have never made it this far and so we thank you for that.
And while we will be saying good-bye to our home here, we will continue to host forums for the GW community over at our sister site, Guild Wars 2 Guru. In fact, you are more than welcome to head on over now and begin posting. If you have any threads you'd like to transfer over, now would be the time.
So once again thank you, and especially those that contributed their time and knowledge to make Guru the amazing place it was. We'll see you over at Guild Wars 2 Guru!
so i decided to reinstall guild wars because 5000ms ping isn't very fun. i went on guildwars.com and downloaded the client installer. 5 hours later the bar seems to be stuck here:
it would be nice if i could play guild wars again. any thoughts?
A high latency isn't usually caused by an install problem.. Those things are mainly caused by your connection to the appropriate servers. I don't think downloading the whole client will fix your problem. Try investigating why you are having such a poor connection rather than starting again.
So i left it downloading overnight and 8 hours later i come back and Guild wars is still downloading stuff at 3-5 kb/sec. (slow)
I don't think it's my connection. I'm connected to my college internet on ethernet and can download a 300+mb file in a couple minutes. Guild wars has always worked fine for me before. Nothing about my computer or my connection has changed.
So Nanood is right. a clean reinstall should be looked at only after you have exhausted your other resources: for example, a badly fragged dat file, anti-virus suddenly deciding GW is a bad program (has happened to me once), things like that.
